Paper 109 Overview: Relation of Adjusters to Universe Creatures

Thought Adjusters are like children of the universe who grow and develop through experience, just as humans do. The Adjusters rehearse future universe activities in human minds while humans are living their daily lives. Both Adjusters and humans benefit from their relationship, with the Adjusters gaining valuable experience that helps them in future assignments.

Adjusters have different classifications based on their experience levels and special abilities. These divine gifts work with many types of beings throughout the universe and adapt to the specific needs of each planet and person they serve. Their loving efforts help human minds develop spiritually and preserve everything of value from each life experience.

Thought Adjusters are considered children of the universe career who need to gain experience while mortal creatures grow. As human personalities grow during childhood through play and social activities, Adjusters similarly develop skills for their next stage of existence through the mortal's mind. They practice important universe activities in human minds while we go about our daily lives.

The Adjusters aren't so much concerned with our daily earthly lives as they are rehearsing for future universe careers. They use our minds as training grounds to prepare for greater responsibilities and opportunities waiting in the eternal future. This preparation benefits both the Adjuster and eventually the human partner as well.

There must be a detailed plan for training new Adjusters before they are sent from Divinington, but we don't know much about it. When an Adjuster's human partner fails to survive, the Adjuster returns to Divinington for additional training based on that experience before being assigned to another mortal. Experience is essential for Adjusters just as it is for humans.

Adjusters grow through their contacts with human races, whether or not their specific human partners survive. They are equal partners with humans in developing the immortal soul. While humans evolve inward and upward toward God, Adjusters evolve outward and downward from God to humans, with the final product being both a son of man and a son of God.

Self-acting Adjusters have reached a special level of development that gives them more freedom and independence. These Adjusters have prior experience, have advanced to at least the third psychic circle with their human partner, have a human who has made a supreme decision, or have a human in the reserve corps of destiny. They can sometimes operate apart from their human partners during sleep or in emergencies.

These advanced Adjusters can communicate with each other to preserve important information, but they rarely leave their human bodies. The highest level of Adjuster development is the "superacting Adjuster," which has completed its assigned tasks and is simply waiting for the human body to die or for the soul to be translated. These Adjusters have achieved everything possible with their current assignment.

The work of Thought Adjusters varies depending on their assignment and the type of planet they serve on. Some Adjusters are only loaned to mortals temporarily, while others are given with the possibility of eternal fusion if the mortal survives. There are three main groups of worlds with different Adjuster relationships.

On series one worlds, Adjusters gain experience with primitive minds, even though few will choose to advance spiritually. On series two worlds, Adjusters cannot fuse with mortals but provide patterns for spiritual growth. Urantia is a series three world, where Adjusters form a "betrothal" with humans, promising eternal fusion if the human survives. Different brain types also affect how Adjusters can work with humans.

Thought Adjusters help higher forms of communication between humans. Animals have feelings but cannot share concepts, ideas, or ideals with each other the way humans can. When Adjusters are given to humans, they improve the quality of personality even though Adjusters themselves are not personalities.

The type and experience level of an Adjuster greatly affects human personality expression. Many great intellectual and spiritual leaders on Urantia had superior Adjusters with previous experience. If all Adjusters were removed from earth, civilization would slowly return to primitive times because Adjusters are important drivers of advancing society. Experienced Adjusters sometimes indwell new humans after their previous partners failed to survive.

Supreme and self-acting Adjusters can contribute spiritual insights to human minds when our thoughts flow freely in creative imagination or during sleep. They can sometimes pause and redirect our thoughts to bring about spiritual transformations in our deeper consciousness. This helps adjust our minds to better connect with spiritual levels.

Mental attitudes that shift rapidly make the Adjusters' work more difficult. Our preconceived opinions, settled ideas, and long-standing prejudices often interfere with what they are trying to accomplish. The great challenge of life is balancing our inherited tendencies with the spiritual urges from the Adjusters. Our physical brain limitations may slow down our spiritual progress but cannot prevent eventual spiritual achievement if we cooperate with our Adjusters.

Adjusters never fail, and nothing worth saving is ever lost. Every meaningful value in a person will survive, even if the person chooses not to survive. The Adjuster carries worthwhile features of even a failed life to another world and gives these surviving meanings and values to another mortal mind that has survival capacity.

If an Adjuster fails to achieve fusion with several human partners and then becomes personalized, all the experience gained from those human minds becomes the permanent possession of the Personalized Adjuster. The Personalized Adjuster of Michael of Nebadon, who guided Jesus during his human life, had previously served with Machiventa Melchizedek during Abraham's time. This Adjuster now reflects the human nature of Jesus, the eternal living record of the values Jesus created during his earthly life.

We don't know if other fragments of the Father can be personalized, but Adjusters gain personality through service to personal beings. Personalized Adjusters live on Divinington, where they teach and guide other Adjusters who haven't yet become personal. They are unassigned stabilizers of the universe who combine Creator and creature experience.

Personalized Adjusters are wise and powerful workers for the Architects of the Master Universe. They serve as personal agents of the Universal Father at all levels of reality. When the Most High custodian took emergency control of Urantia, three Personalized Adjusters appeared immediately but weren't given specific assignments. These special beings perform many services for universe personalities that we are not permitted to know about.
