Paper 108 Overview: Mission and Ministry of Thought Adjusters

The Thought Adjusters represent the Universal Father to humans and help elevate our minds toward spiritual perfection. They share in our experiences to help the eternal God understand what it means to be human, creating a unique partnership between God and mortals.

Through this divine partnership, the Adjusters work to transform human nature into divine nature for eternal service. The Infinite God needs this experience with mortals because God cannot know through direct experience what he has not personally experienced, which is why fragments of the Father indwell mortal minds.

The main purpose of Thought Adjusters is to represent the Universal Father to humans and help transform mortal minds to reach Paradise perfection. In this process, they create a unique being through the union of the perfect Adjuster and the perfected human who could not exist in any other way.

The infinite God is complete but cannot experientially know what he has not personally experienced. This is why the Universal Father sends fragments of himself to participate in the mortal experience of ascending toward God. Through the Adjusters, God gains actual experience of the struggles and challenges humans face.

Thought Adjusters are all identical in their divine nature, but they differ in their experience with evolutionary creatures. They are assigned to humans based on a wise policy that matches them to the personality they will indwell, with more experienced Adjusters often assigned to higher types of human minds.

All Adjusters are believed to be volunteers who receive complete information about their potential human hosts before choosing to indwell them. They are particularly interested in the human's intellectual capacity, spiritual perception, and how these qualities might work together to produce an immortal soul of survival value.

Thought Adjusters cannot enter a human mind until it has been prepared by the adjutant mind-spirits and connected to the Holy Spirit. They can only enter after the child makes their first moral decision, which usually happens around six years of age on Urantia.

The Adjusters cannot force their way into a human mind but must wait until the person makes moral choices between good and evil. Since the Spirit of Truth came to Urantia at Pentecost, Adjusters immediately arrive when the seventh adjutant mind-spirit begins to function in a child's developing mind.

As far as we know, Thought Adjusters are organized as an independent working unit in the universe and are administered directly from Divinington. They are uniform throughout the seven superuniverses, with all local universes receiving identical types of Mystery Monitors.

Complete records of Adjusters exist only at the headquarters of the seven superuniverses. The number and order of each Adjuster is reported from Paradise to the superuniverse headquarters, then to local universe headquarters, and finally to the specific planet involved, but local universe records do not show the full number of Thought Adjusters.

The Thought Adjusters are the direct way the Father maintains personal contact with his children, despite appearing to have given authority to the Paradise Sons. They represent the Father's unchallengeable right to be present in the minds of his evolving creatures.

Though Adjusters seem to function independently of other spiritual influences, long-term observation shows they work in perfect harmony with all other spirit ministries. When a planet is cut off from universe communication through rebellion, as Urantia was after the Caligastia uprising, the Adjusters provide one of the few remaining ways for direct interplanetary communication.

Adjusters take on a difficult job when they volunteer to live in the complex minds of beings like those on Urantia. Their essential role is to receive spiritual messages from higher realms and translate these messages to the material mind of the human they indwell.

The Adjusters are not focused on making human life easy but on building a foundation for our future eternal existence. They preserve spiritual truths that their human hosts cannot yet understand, saving them for later stages of existence. The Adjusters are absolutely dependable and never fail in their mission of spiritual guidance.

It is amazing that the perfect Adjusters offer themselves to exist in the minds of material creatures like humans on Urantia. They truly create the possibility of a union between God and man that brings the human closer to the Father.

The Adjusters come to all normal-minded people on worlds like Urantia, especially after a divine Son has visited. They create an exact spiritual copy of every good thought and action of their human partner, slowly recreating the person as they truly are spiritually for resurrection on the survival worlds. The Adjusters are the divine parents of our higher, better selves that will continue beyond physical death.
