The Thought Adjusters fulfill the fundamental mission of representing the Universal Father to mortal beings while simultaneously elevating human minds toward the divine heights of Paradise perfection. Through this unique partnership, they create a special type of being consisting of the eternal union between a perfect Adjuster and a perfected creature, something that could not be achieved through any other universal method. These divine fragments participate in every legitimate experience of the ascending career, allowing the infinite God to gain experiential knowledge of finite existence.

The Universal Father descends from Paradise in the form of Thought Adjusters to share in the genuine experiences of mortal beings throughout their ascending careers. This participation is necessary because even the infinite God cannot experientially know what he has not personally encountered. Through the ministry of the Adjusters, the eternal and existential God becomes in truth and in fact humanity's experiential Father, with the infinity of God encompassing the potential for finite experience that becomes actual through the Adjusters' sharing in human life experiences.

The mission of Thought Adjusters to human races is to represent and embody the Universal Father to mortal creatures throughout time and space, which constitutes their fundamental purpose. They aim to elevate mortal minds and translate immortal souls upward to the divine heights and spiritual levels of Paradise perfection, creating through this transformation a unique being formed by the eternal union of the perfect Adjuster with the perfected creature—a type of being impossible to duplicate through any other universal technique.

The infinite God, while always complete and all-encompassing, cannot experientially know what he has not personally experienced despite his infinite foreknowledge. Therefore, the spirit of the Father descends from Paradise to participate with finite mortals in every genuine experience of their ascending careers. This is the only way the existential God could truly become humanity's experiential Father, as the infinity of the eternal God contains the potential for finite experience, which becomes actual reality through the ministry of Adjuster fragments who literally share in the life experiences of human beings.

When Thought Adjusters are dispatched for service from Divinington, they are identical in their divine essence but differ in their experiential qualities based on previous contacts with evolutionary creatures. While we cannot fully explain how Adjusters are assigned to specific individuals, we believe these divine gifts are bestowed according to a wise and efficient policy of eternal fitness, with more experienced Adjusters often indwelling higher types of human minds. Human heredity appears to be a significant factor in determining which Adjuster is selected for a particular person.

All Thought Adjusters are believed to be volunteers who receive comprehensive data about their candidates for indwelling before they offer their services. Seraphic drafts containing ancestry information and projected life patterns are transmitted via Paradise to Divinington through a reflectivity technique extending from local universes to superuniverses. The Adjusters are particularly interested in three human qualifications: intellectual capacity and potential; spiritual perception and receptivity; and the possible combination of these intellectual and spiritual powers to produce strength of character and contribute to the evolution of an immortal soul capable of survival.

Though Adjusters volunteer for service as soon as personality forecasts reach Divinington, they are not actually assigned until their human subjects make their first moral personality decision. This first moral choice is automatically registered by the seventh mind-adjutant and instantly transmitted through the local universe Creative Spirit over the universal mind-gravity circuit to Divinington. On Urantia, Adjusters typically reach their human subjects just before their sixth birthday, currently averaging arrival on the 2,134th day of terrestrial life, or at five years, ten months, and four days of age.

The Adjusters cannot enter the mortal mind until it has been properly prepared by the adjutant mind-spirits and encircuited in the Holy Spirit. All seven adjutants must work together to qualify the human mind for receiving an Adjuster, with the mind demonstrating worship tendencies and the ability to choose between good and evil. Since the Spirit of Truth came to Urantia at Pentecost, Adjusters unfailingly arrive the moment the seventh adjutant mind-spirit begins functioning in a child's developing intellect, which is why divine Adjusters have been universally bestowed upon all normal-minded people of moral status on Urantia since that time.

As far as we know, Adjusters function as an independent working unit in the universe and are administered directly from Divinington. They are uniform throughout the seven superuniverses, with all local universes being served by identical types of Mystery Monitors. We recognize various series of Adjusters involving a serial organization extending through races, dispensations, and to worlds, systems, and universes, though it is extremely difficult to track these divine gifts since they function interchangeably throughout the grand universe.

Complete records of Thought Adjusters exist only at the headquarters of the seven superuniverses, where the number and order of each Adjuster indwelling every ascending creature are reported from Paradise. This information is then communicated to the local universe headquarters and relayed to the specific planet involved, though local universe records do not disclose the full number of Adjusters. Human subjects are often known by their Adjusters' numbers rather than names until after Adjuster fusion, when the newly formed being receives a new name from their destiny guardian.

The Thought Adjusters eloquently demonstrate that despite the Father's apparent delegation of power throughout the universe, he has reserved the unchallengeable right to be present in the minds and souls of his evolving creatures. While the Father may have seemingly resigned direct personal authority throughout the grand universe, he maintains the ability to draw all creation to himself through the spiritual gravity of the Paradise Sons. Though not subordinate to or apparently related to other universal functions, these Mystery Monitors continuously urge the creatures they indwell toward divine ideals, constantly guiding them upward toward better and higher lives.

Thought Adjusters appear to operate independently of other spiritual presences, functioning according to universe laws quite separate from those governing other spirit influences. However, long-term observation reveals they work in perfect synchrony with all other spirit ministries, including adjutant mind-spirits, Holy Spirit, and Spirit of Truth. When a planet is isolated through rebellion, as Urantia was after the Caligastia upheaval, the Adjusters provide one of the few means of direct interplanetary communication since they can maintain contact with any part of the local universe, superuniverse, or central universe regardless of planetary isolation.

The Adjusters accept a challenging assignment when they volunteer to indwell complex beings like those on Urantia. They take on the task of existing within human minds to receive the guidance of spiritual intelligences from higher realms and then translating these spiritual messages to the material mind of their human host. This translation process is essential for the human's eventual ascension to Paradise.

What the Thought Adjuster cannot successfully transmit to the person in the present life, they faithfully preserve for use in future stages of existence. The Adjusters never fail in their mission and never lose anything committed to their care. They are not focused on making mortal life easier but rather on preparing the soul for its eternal journey. Their mission involves constructing a new mind through adjustment and spiritualization, creating a better self for future worlds and eternal existence rather than providing earthly comfort or solving temporary problems.

It represents an extraordinary divine condescension for the exalted and perfect Adjusters to offer themselves for actual existence within the minds of material creatures like the mortals of Urantia. They truly consummate a probationary union with animal-origin beings, patiently coexisting with humans even in the midst of unrighteousness. Following the bestowal of a Paradise Son and the universal gift of the Spirit of Truth, these divine fragments come to indwell the minds of all normal-willed creatures, representing the Father's closest possible approach to sin and evil.

The Mystery Monitors are the Universal Father's bestowal, the reflection of God's image throughout the universe. A great teacher once advised people to be renewed in the spirit of their minds and to become new individuals who, like God, are created in righteousness and truth. The Adjuster is the mark of divinity and the presence of God within the human being. It serves as the wellspring of spiritual attainment and the hope of divine character, creating faithful duplicates of every mental creation with a spiritual counterpart, slowly re-creating the human personality for resurrection on the survival worlds.
