The Midway Creatures
  • Summary

Midway creatures live between the level of humans and angels on most inhabited worlds in Nebadon. On Urantia, there are two different orders of midwayers - the primary midwayers who appeared during the days of Dalamatia, and the secondary midwayers who began during the time of Adam.

The midwayers are important helpers in the spiritual work of the planet. Though most primary midwayers joined the rebellion, the loyal ones along with the secondary midwayers now work together as a united team of almost 11,000 beings who serve as permanent citizens of Urantia.

  • Introduction

Most inhabited worlds in Nebadon have midway creatures who exist at a level between humans and angels. They appear to be an unexpected development, but they are valuable helpers in the spiritual work of planets.

On Urantia, there are two different types of midwayers. The primary or senior midwayers came into being during the days of Dalamatia, and the secondary or younger group originated during the time of Adam.

  • 1. The Primary Midwayers

The primary midwayers began through a unique connection between material and spiritual beings on Urantia. They appeared when the 100 physical staff members of Prince Caligastia could somehow produce children at a supermaterial level.

Each couple of the corporeal staff was allowed to produce one midwayer, and later they were permitted to create more until each couple had produced 1,000 midwayers. This resulted in a total of 50,000 primary midwayers who served as helpers to the Prince's staff.

  • 2. The Nodite Race

The staff members of Prince Caligastia were physical beings who could have children. After the rebellion, some of these staff members had children with early humans, creating the Nodite race.

The Nodite descendants were superior to other early humans because their bodies carried special energy patterns from their celestial ancestors. Their lifespans were much longer than normal humans, which explains some ancient records of kings who lived for hundreds of years.

  • 3. The Tower of Babel

About 50,000 years after Nod died, there were too many Nodites living near the city of Dilmun. A leader named Bablot suggested building a great tower and temple to celebrate their race.

The Nodites disagreed about the purpose of the tower, and this led to fighting. Some wanted it to honor their history, others wanted it to celebrate their culture, and a smaller group thought it should be for worship of God. The fighting destroyed many Nodites and scattered the rest.

  • 4. Nodite Centers of Civilization

The fighting over the tower of Babel scattered the Nodites, reducing their numbers and preventing them from creating a great pre-Adamic civilization. Four main Nodite centers were established after this conflict.

The Nodites formed centers in Syria, Elam, pre-Sumeria, and around Lake Van. The pre-Sumerian Nodites maintained more of their racial qualities and later joined with Adamites to create the Sumerian people who suddenly appeared in history with an advanced civilization.

  • 5. Adamson and Ratta

Adamson was the first son of Adam and Eve who stayed on earth when they left the Garden of Eden. When he was 120 years old, he decided to find the northern highlands that Van and Amadon had told him about.

Adamson found and married Ratta, who was descended from the Prince's staff. They had 67 children, but strangely, every fourth child was invisible. These special children were paired together and became the origin of the secondary midwayers, of which nearly 2,000 were eventually created.

  • 6. The Secondary Midwayers

The secondary midwayers came from the special children of Adamson and Ratta. Sixteen of their children could produce a midwayer every 70 days through a combination of normal and spiritual processes.

Each of these sixteen children eventually produced 248 midwayers, creating a total of 1,984 secondary midwayers. After Adamson died, most secondary midwayers lived unorganized lives until the time of Melchizedek, when they began to be brought under control.

  • 7. The Rebel Midwayers

Most of the primary midwayers joined the Lucifer rebellion. Out of 50,000 primary midwayers, 40,119 followed Caligastia in rebellion against Michael's rule.

Of the 1,984 secondary midwayers, 873 also joined the rebellion. Before Jesus came to earth, these rebel midwayers could sometimes control weak human minds, explaining stories of demon possession. After Pentecost, this became impossible, and all rebel midwayers are now held prisoner.

  • 8. The United Midwayers

After Jesus left earth, the loyal midwayers joined together as a single group of 10,992 beings. They are now governed by the senior members of each order taking turns as leaders.

The United Midwayers serve in different roles: as messengers, as watchful guardians of the planet, as contact helpers between spiritual and physical beings, and as assistants to the angels. They have pledged not to leave Urantia until they are properly released by universe authorities.

  • 9. The Permanent Citizens of Urantia

Unlike angels who come and go, midwayers remain on their native planet as permanent citizens. They have a deep interest in Urantia's future and work hard to help the planet progress.

Midwayers can learn about the universe from visiting celestial beings. They continue to grow in wisdom and experience throughout their long lives. They help bridge the gap between the physical and spiritual aspects of Urantia, and they preserve the planet's history and traditions across generations.
