Paper 40 Overview: The Ascending Sons of God

This Paper describes seven different groups of ascending sons of God in the universe, showing how different beings progress toward Paradise. The journey begins with various mortal creatures and other beings who seek to find and achieve oneness with God. These ascenders travel through many worlds, gaining experience and wisdom as they progress toward higher spiritual levels of achievement.

The story of these beings presents a beautiful account of God's love and gracious involvement throughout all time and in all universes. Different types of beings follow different paths but share the same goal of finding God. The Universal Father provides every facility and power needed to ensure all his children can reach the Paradise goal of divine perfection.

The universe has seven general classes of ascending sons of God who journey toward Paradise. These seven types include: Father-fused mortals, Son-fused mortals, Spirit-fused mortals, evolutionary seraphim, ascending Material Sons, translated midwayers, and Personalized Adjusters. This Paper continues the ongoing narrative about the eternal purpose of the Gods regarding all beings who can achieve immortality.

Previous presentations began with a description of the Deities and moved down the universal scale of living beings to the lowest order of life that can achieve immortality. Now a Mighty Messenger who was once a mortal will explain the eternal purpose of the Gods regarding the ascending orders of sonship. The greater part of this narrative will focus on the three basic orders of ascending mortals, but first it will consider the non-mortal ascending orders.

Angels can also become ascending sons. Through their experience and service with mortals, guardian seraphim can achieve Paradise and may even join the Corps of Mortal Finality. For an angel to climb to these heights is a remarkable achievement that goes beyond what most mortals can understand.

Guardian angels, through their dedicated service to ascending mortals, can themselves become ascenders who reach Paradise. This represents a significant accomplishment for these angelic beings. It shows how service to others creates opportunities for spiritual advancement in the universe.

Material Sons and Daughters (like Adam and Eve) begin as descending sons who come to evolutionary worlds from system capitals. When they successfully complete their mission as biological uplifters, they may eventually register as perfected Material Sons. After completing certain formalities, they can begin the long journey to Paradise.

They make this journey alongside mortal and other ascending sons. They continue until they have found God and achieved membership in the Corps of Mortal Finality. This shows how beings who start as descending helpers can later become ascenders themselves through faithful service.

Midway creatures are released from planetary duty when a world reaches the ages of light and life. Most midwayers are translated on the day when the temple of light appears and the Planetary Prince becomes Planetary Sovereign. Once relieved of planetary service, they register as ascending Sons of God and begin their ascent to Paradise.

They follow the same routes that mortal races take in their progression. The primary group of midwayers are destined for various finaliter corps, while the secondary or Adamic midwayers are headed for enrollment in the Mortal Corps of Finality. This shows another pathway for beings to achieve Paradise.

When mortals fail to achieve eternal survival, it is never because their Adjusters failed in their duties. Adjusters from non-surviving mortals return to Divinington and may be reassigned to other worlds. Sometimes, after special experiences, these Adjusters are personalized by the Universal Father.

Personalized Adjusters are beings of a unique order. They started as prepersonal beings but gained experience through living in mortal minds. Because the Universal Father gives them personality, they are classified as ascending Sons of God, which is the highest of all such orders of sonship.

Mortals are the last link in the chain of beings called sons of God. The Original and Eternal Son's touch passes down through decreasingly divine beings until reaching humans. Similarly, the Infinite Spirit draws near to mortals through various orders of beings, including angels who guard and guide humans.

The Father himself indwells mortals through Thought Adjusters. Since Adjusters are the only spirits that can fuse with humans, mortals are classified according to their relationship with these divine Monitors. The three main types are: mortals with temporary Adjusters, mortals of non-Adjuster fusion types, and mortals with Adjuster-fusion potential.

Mortal beings are divinely loved but are not yet of the divine order. They become ascending sons when fusion happens, but before that event, they are known as faith sons. It is amazing that such lowly creatures as humans can be called sons of God.

All evolutionary worlds have these faith sons of God. They are sons of grace and mercy who belong to the divine family. Humans can consider themselves sons of God for several reasons: they have accepted this status by faith, they are brothers of Christ, they have received the spirit of a Son, they have been given personality by the Father, and they have a fragment of the Father living within them.

The sending of Adjusters to indwell humans is one of God's great mysteries. These fragments of the Father carry the potential for immortality, and union with them gives eternal life to the mortal soul. Your own races of mortals belong to this group of ascending Sons of God.

Currently, you are planetary sons with the potential to ascend to the highest heights of glory. When you and your Adjuster are forever fused, you truly become ascending sons of God. The Father has commanded, "Be you perfect, even as I am perfect." Do you realize what has been done for you and the grandeur of the eternal achievement that awaits you?

While most surviving mortals fuse with their Adjusters on the mansion worlds, some cases of fusion are delayed. Some mortals never achieve identity fusion with their Adjusters, even after reaching the educational worlds of the universe headquarters. These mortals have been deemed worthy of survival by the proper authorities.

When it becomes clear that some difficulty is preventing Father fusion, the Creator Son's survival referees are called. If they find no cause for the failure to fuse, the Adjuster returns to Divinington and the mortal immediately fuses with an individualized gift of the Creator Son's spirit. Son-fused mortals are not numerous, with less than one million in the superuniverse of Orvonton.

Spirit-fused mortals are not Third Source personalities but are included in the Father's personality circuit. This type of fusion never happens during natural life but occurs during the morontia existence on the mansion worlds. The Adjusters work in the minds of these beings during mortal life but never become one with their souls.

When such mortals die, the Adjusters leave them permanently. When these survivors are repersonalized on the mansion worlds, the Divine Minister's spirit replaces the departed Adjuster. These Spirit-fused mortals differ from other ascenders in one important way: they have no memory of human experience because the Adjuster, who would normally preserve these memories, has departed.

Different types of fusion lead to different destinies. Spirit-fused mortals generally stay within the local universe, Son-fused survivors are limited to a superuniverse, and Adjuster-fused mortals can travel throughout the entire universe of universes. The spirits of fusion always ascend to their level of origin.

These different destinies do not mean that one path is better than another. Each serves an important purpose in the universe plan. The Father loves each of his sons equally with a unique and exclusive love. Sonship is the supreme relationship between creature and Creator. Every facility and power has been provided to ensure you can reach the Paradise goal of divine perfection.
