The Planetary Adams
  • Summary

Paper 51 explores the purpose and function of the Planetary Adams, who are biological uplifters sent to evolving worlds after the Planetary Prince has established civilization. These Material Sons and Daughters, represented by Adam and Eve, are essential for advancing planetary evolution by introducing superior genetic patterns and establishing advanced cultural centers. They serve as visible rulers who help bridge the gap between the spiritual realm and material beings, guiding worlds toward improved social organization and enhanced spiritual receptivity.

The paper details the origin, nature, and missions of these Material Sons, explaining their role in racial amalgamation and cultural advancement. On normal worlds, their work leads to the blending of races and establishment of advanced civilizations, though on Urantia, their mission was compromised by rebellion. Despite this setback, Adam and Eve's contribution to Urantia provided valuable biological improvements and accelerated development, even though the full plan for race harmonization and cultural advancement was not realized.

  • Introduction

When primitive human development reaches its natural evolutionary limit, the System Sovereign dispatches the second order of sonship—the biological uplifters known as Material Sons and Daughters—to an inhabited world. Commonly known as Adam and Eve after the first of their kind in Satania, these beings remain on their assigned planet throughout its evolutionary development to enhance biological status and promote cultural advancement.

On normal worlds with loyal Planetary Princes, this assignment presents little danger, but on rebellious planets like Urantia, such missions involve significant risk. Despite the partial failure of Adam and Eve's mission on Urantia due to the planet's isolated status and rebellion, their genetic contribution benefited the world tremendously. Their work, though not accomplished according to the original plan, is not considered a total loss by the universe administrators and has significantly improved Urantia's development.

  • 1. Origin and Nature of the Material Sons of God

The Material Sons and Daughters are created by the Creator Son without participation from the Universe Mother Spirit and are specifically designed to function as physical uplifters on evolutionary worlds. Each local system receives only one original pair of Material Sons whose nature aligns with the life pattern of their respective systems, ensuring their reproductive capacity functions with the evolutionary beings of the worlds in that system.

These Material Sons stand between eight and ten feet tall with bodies that glow with violet light. They possess dual nutrition systems, consuming both material food and cosmic energy, which maintains their immortality. If they rebel or deliberately violate their mission, they can be cut off from the universe source of light and life, becoming essentially mortal. Although immortal by nature, they cannot transmit this immortality to their children born on evolutionary worlds, as the Life Carriers deliberately modify their reproductive abilities when they are assigned to planetary missions.

  • 2. Transit of the Planetary Adams

When an inhabited world reaches appropriate physical evolutionary development, the System Sovereign convenes the corps of Material Sons and Daughters to select volunteers for a planetary mission. The chosen Adam and Eve undergo a dematerialization process that prepares them for transport by seraphim to their assigned world, a preparation that typically consumes about three days of standard time.

After arrival at their destination, the Life Carriers oversee a rematerialization process that takes between ten and twenty-eight days. This transportation method is one-way unless a planet-wide evacuation becomes necessary. The transport seraphim are specially equipped to facilitate the transition of these semi-material beings, enabling their journey through space while preserving their unique physical properties for service on evolutionary worlds.

  • 3. The Adamic Missions

Upon arrival, the Material Sons construct garden homes with assistance from their children and eventually from the higher types of native races. These Gardens of Eden, named after the constellation capital Edentia, are typically situated in secluded regions with favorable climate conditions. They serve as magnificent centers of culture, far surpassing the fragmentary development that occurred on Urantia.

The primary responsibility of Adam and Eve is to multiply and biologically uplift the mortal races. They initially remain biologically segregated from the evolutionary mortals while establishing a strong violet race. On Urantia, Caligastia, the rebellious Planetary Prince, successfully undermined the Adamic mission by enticing the Edenic pair to violate their trusteeship covenant. Despite warnings from the Melchizedek receivers about the danger posed by Caligastia, the archrebel managed to compromise Adam and Eve, though he failed to involve them in the broader Lucifer rebellion.

  • 4. The Six Evolutionary Races

On inhabited worlds, the red race typically develops first and reaches human levels of development before other races emerge. The Life Carriers bestow their full energies upon this initial race, while subsequent races represent variations with progressively diminished original biological endowments. Mortal stature generally decreases from the red race down to the indigo race, though exceptions have occurred.

The six evolutionary races alternate in capacity for intellectual growth and spiritual development, with the first, third, and fifth races (red, yellow, and blue) being superior, while the second, fourth, and sixth races (orange, green, and indigo) possess somewhat lesser endowments. The evolutionary plan calls for these races to intermingle and eventually be uplifted through amalgamation with the Adamic race. This process provides beneficial variations in mortal types and diverse human potentials that strengthen the species when subsequently enhanced by the Adamic or violet race.

  • 5. Racial Amalgamation—Bestowal of the Adamic Blood

When Planetary Adams and Eves arrive on an inhabited world, they receive detailed instructions on how to improve existing races, though procedures vary according to planetary conditions. Typically, the violet race does not begin amalgamation with natives until their population exceeds one million, at which point the most qualified indigenous individuals are selected to mate with Adam's offspring.

This selective breeding represents the highest honor on most worlds and initiates a new era of rapid progress. Children from these unions are educated in the Planetary Prince's schools before returning to their evolutionary parent's race to marry superior mortals. This infusion of Adamic life plasm accelerates civilization dramatically—accomplishing more progress in 100,000 years than would otherwise occur in a million years of independent evolution. On Urantia, despite the miscarriage of the ordained plans, significant progress resulted from Adam's genetic contribution.

  • 6. The Edenic Regime

On most inhabited worlds, the Gardens of Eden persist as exemplary cultural centers and social models long after their establishment. Even while the violet race remains relatively segregated, their schools accept suitable candidates from among the world races, while garden industries foster new channels of commerce and cultural exchange with the evolutionary peoples.

The garden headquarters becomes the second center of world culture, complementing the Planetary Prince's headquarters city. These two centers typically function in harmonious cooperation, with the Prince's schools emphasizing philosophy, religion, and higher intellectual pursuits, while the Adamic schools focus on practical arts, basic education, social culture, and economic development. The long-term presence of the pure-line violet race provides stability to Edenic culture, forming an indispensable link between the Creator and finite personalities.

  • 7. United Administration

Periodically, Avonal Sons from Paradise visit inhabited worlds for judicial actions, but the first Avonal to arrive on a magisterial mission inaugurates the fourth dispensation of an evolutionary world. On some worlds where this Magisterial Son is universally accepted, he remains for an entire age, creating a period when the planet benefits from the joint rulership of three divine figures: the Planetary Prince, the Material Son, and the Magisterial Son.

Before completing his mission, the Magisterial Son facilitates the unification of the educational and administrative work of the Planetary Prince and Material Son. Following the Magisterial Son's departure, Adam and Eve assume joint responsibility as planetary administrators until the world advances to the era of light and life. As the planet progresses, subcapitals are established on remote land masses, with the Planetary Prince focusing on spiritual and philosophical domains while Adam and Eve supervise physical, scientific, and economic affairs.
