Paper 64 Overview: The Evolutionary Races of Color

Humanity diversified into six evolutionary races of color. These early races spread across the planet, influenced by environment, heredity, and divine guidance, shaping the genetic and cultural future of Urantia.

The Evolutionary Races of Color
  • Summary

This paper tells the story of human evolution on Urantia from the time of Andon and Fonta nearly one million years ago. The first half of mankind's history happened before the Planetary Prince arrived, while the second half began when the six colored races appeared.

The different colored races developed from a single family with special children who showed various skin colors when exposed to sunlight. These races spread across the world and had different strengths and challenges that shaped human civilization.

  • Introduction

This paper covers the evolutionary history of Urantia from the days of Andon and Fonta to the end of the ice age. The first half of mankind's history occurred before the Planetary Prince arrived on Urantia.

The second half of human history begins with the arrival of the Planetary Prince and the appearance of the six colored races. This period roughly matches what is commonly known as the Old Stone Age.

  • 1. The Andonic Aborigines

Primitive man appeared on earth a little less than one million years ago. These early people could not go east because of high Tibetan lands, and could not travel south or west because of the expanded Mediterranean Sea that reached the Indian Ocean. When they went north, they found ice.

These Andonites avoided forests, unlike their nonhuman relatives who lived in the southern tropical forests. The cold and hunger of open lands helped these tribes develop the pioneer human race, while their backward cousins enjoyed easier lives in the southern forests.

  • 2. The Foxhall Peoples

By 900,000 years ago, the culture and religion started by Andon, Fonta, and Onagar was disappearing. During this time, large groups of inferior mixed people arrived in England from southern France, who were barely human and had no religion.

The Foxhall peoples in England and the Badonan tribes of northwest India held onto some traditions from Andon and remnants of Onagar's culture. The Foxhall peoples passed on their knowledge of flintworking to their descendants, who later became the ancestors of the Eskimos.

  • 3. The Badonan Tribes

Another struggling center of culture survived in the east among the Badonan tribes in the northwestern Indian highlands. These people were the only descendants of Andon who never practiced human sacrifice.

These highland Badonites lived in crude stone huts and hillside caves. By 850,000 years ago, the superior Badonan tribes began a war against their inferior neighbors. In less than one thousand years, they had removed most of the borderland animal groups from their regions.

  • 4. The Neanderthal Races

The Neanderthalers were excellent fighters who gradually spread from northwest India to France, China, and northern Africa. They dominated the world for almost half a million years until the colored races migrated.

During this long period, the Neanderthal races had little spiritual progress. They developed a primitive religion based on fear of natural forces, which led to the terrible practice of human sacrifice. They feared the dark and would sacrifice their best people to make the moon shine again.

  • 5. Origin of the Colored Races

About 500,000 years ago, the Badonan tribes of northwestern India were involved in another great racial struggle. After more than one hundred years of warfare, only about one hundred families survived.

Among these highland Badonites, something new and strange happened. A man and woman living in the northeastern highlands began to have unusually intelligent children whose skin showed different colors in sunlight. This was the Sangik family, whose nineteen children became the ancestors of all six colored races of Urantia.

  • 6. The Six Sangik Races of Urantia

On most evolutionary planets, the six races of color appear one by one, with the red man evolving first. On Urantia, all six races appeared at the same time in one family, which was unusual.

The six races were the red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and indigo peoples. Each race had special strengths and weaknesses. The red race was intelligent and developed tribal government. The yellow race was peaceful and focused on agriculture. The blue race invented many tools and arts. The indigo race was the last to migrate from their highland homes.

  • 7. Dispersion of the Colored Races

When the colored descendants of the Sangik family began to multiply, they sought to expand into nearby lands. The fifth glacier was moving south over Europe and Asia, testing these early colored races.

The red men moved northeast to Asia and later to North America. The yellow race stayed in central Asia. The blue race went northwest to Europe. The indigo race took over Africa. After many struggles between different groups, the racial map of Urantia showed the red man in North America, the yellow man in eastern Asia, the blue man in Europe, and the indigo race in Africa.
