Paper 113 Overview: Seraphic Guardians of Destiny

Seraphim are the guardian angels who minister to humans, helping them through life and after death. They serve as spiritual helpers and have been working on Urantia since the earliest times of human intelligence. The angels have special ways of working with people based on their spiritual level and help guide humans toward better life choices.

Seraphic guardians continue to serve humans after death, keeping the soul safe until resurrection on the mansion worlds. They play a key role in helping your personality survive death and rebuild in the afterlife. These angels serve as your companions and guides throughout your entire journey from earth to Paradise.

Seraphim are the guardian angels devoted to serving individual mortals as part of the spiritual progression plan. In the past on Urantia, these destiny guardians were about the only group of angels that people recognized. Seraphim are truly ministering spirits sent to help those who will survive, and they have played important roles in many revelations throughout history.

Angels are the traditional heavenly beings who live close to humans and do much for them. They have served on Urantia since the earliest times of human intelligence development. Guardian angels are real helpers who provide spiritual support to evolving humans.

The teaching about guardian angels is not a myth, as certain groups of people do have personal angels. Jesus recognized this when he spoke about children of the heavenly kingdom, saying their angels always see the presence of the Father's spirit. This truth shows that guardian angels are real spiritual helpers.

Originally, seraphim were assigned to separate Urantia races, but since Michael's bestowal, they are assigned according to human intelligence, spirituality, and destiny. People are divided into three classes: those with subnormal minds who cannot understand God, those with average normal minds who are grouped into seven spiritual progress circles, and those with supernormal minds who have greater spiritual potential. People in the third group immediately receive personal guardian angels.

Seraphim become known as guardians of destiny when they are assigned to a human soul that has achieved one of three things: made a supreme decision to become Godlike, entered the third circle of spiritual progress, or been included in one of the reserve corps of destiny. On Urantia, the first mortal to get a personal guardian was Rantowoc, a wise man of the red race from long ago.

All guardian assignments come from volunteering seraphim, and the appointments match human needs and consider the angels' experience and wisdom. Only seraphim with long service and testing are assigned as destiny guardians. These angels develop special attachments to the worlds and races they serve, and they find it hard to understand why humans allow fear to dominate their thinking so much.

One of the most important things a destiny guardian does is to coordinate the many impersonal spirit influences that affect the mind and soul of the evolving human. Because humans are personalities, it is difficult for non-personal spirits to connect directly with material and personal minds. The guarding angel helps make these spiritual influences more understandable to the human personality.

The seraphic guardian especially helps coordinate the many influences of the Infinite Spirit, from physical controllers to the Holy Spirit. The guardian then connects this integrated influence with the spirit presences of the Father and the Son. In this way, angels combine the love of the Father and the mercy of the Son in their ministry to humans.

Guardian seraphim are not mind, though they come from the same source that gives origin to human mind, the Creative Spirit. Seraphim stimulate the mind to make better decisions. They work from outside inward through the social, ethical, and moral environment, unlike the Thought Adjuster which works from within the soul.

Mortals can follow both Adjuster guidance and seraphic direction. The Adjuster is the essence of eternal nature, while the seraphim teaches evolving nature - the mortal mind in this life and the morontia soul in the next. Seraphim guide humans into new and progressive experiences, often leading to difficult moral choices and spiritual progress rather than an easy life.

Angels do not invade the sanctity of the human mind or manipulate human will. The guardian of destiny influences you in every possible way while respecting your personality. These angels never interfere with your free choice, as neither angels nor any other universe beings have power to limit human decision-making.

Angels care deeply for humans, figuratively "weeping" over human stubbornness. They act independently of direct human appeals, following the instructions of their superiors regardless of passing human moods. Angels guard humans but do not directly control them - you must chart your own course, and the angels then make the best of your choices.

When a person dies, the guardian angel preserves their records, identity specifications, and the morontia soul that evolved through the partnership of mortal mind and divine Adjuster. The angel keeps everything that makes up the real person except the continuing identity (held by the departing Adjuster) and personality itself.

When the human mind stops functioning, the attending angel reports to their commanding officers and receives certification to travel to the first mansion world. There, the angel waits for their former ward to awaken in their new form. The guardian seraphim is the trustee of the survival values of the sleeping soul while the Adjuster is away, and when they work together with the newly created morontia form, the personality of the moral human is reassembled.

It is a glorious moment in an ascending mortal's career to awaken on the mansion world and actually see the angelic companions who were present but invisible during earthly life. This experience is a true resurrection where you become conscious of both your guardian angel and your Thought Adjuster who lived in your mind on earth.

On the morontia spheres, the two attending seraphim become your open companions. They help you progress through the transition worlds, and you actually become their assistant at first. As you continue ascending through the universe, these faithful angels accompany you all the way through the superuniverse worlds and to the threshold of Havona. Some guardian angels even follow their human companions through Havona to Paradise, creating eternal bonds of friendship and service.
