From the inception of life on an evolutionary planet to its final flowering in the era of light and life, there appear upon the stage of world action at least seven epochs of human life. These successive ages are determined by the planetary missions of the divine Sons, and on an average inhabited world, these epochs appear in the following order: Pre-Planetary Prince Man, Post-Planetary Prince Man, Post-Adamic Man, Post-Magisterial Son Man, Post-Bestowal Son Man, Post-Teacher Son Man, and The Era of Light and Life.

The worlds of space, as soon as they are physically suitable for life, are placed on the registry of the Life Carriers, and in due time, these Sons are dispatched to such planets for the purpose of initiating life. The entire period from life initiation to the appearance of man is designated the prehuman era and precedes the successive mortal epochs considered in this narrative.

From the time of man's emergence from the animal level, when he can choose to worship the Creator, to the arrival of the Planetary Prince, mortal will creatures are called primitive men. Six basic types or races of primitive men exist, appearing successively in the order of the spectrum colors, beginning with the red race. The duration of this early evolutionary period varies substantially between worlds, ranging from one hundred and fifty thousand years to over one million years of Urantia time. The evolutionary races of color—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and indigo—emerge when primitive man develops simple language and begins to exercise creative imagination.

Primitive men function as formidable hunters and fierce fighters, living under the physical law of survival of the fittest and operating exclusively with tribal governmental structures. During early racial struggles, some evolutionary races face extinction on many worlds, as occurred on Urantia. Survivors are typically subsequently blended with the later imported violet race, the Adamic peoples. In retrospect, this era of primitive man represents a long, dark, and bloody chapter that, while not aligned with later standards of revealed religion, nonetheless constitutes a splendid and heroic period in evolutionary annals.

These primitive mortals gradually master fire, improve tools, and overcome larger animals on their path to civilization. On some planets, they even utilize large flying birds for transportation, intelligent creatures long extinct on Urantia but once employed by your early ancestors. Within approximately one hundred thousand years after man attains erect posture, the Planetary Prince typically arrives on a world. This arrival occurs when the System Sovereign receives the Life Carriers' report that will-consciousness is functioning sufficiently among the primitive populations.

With the arrival of the Planetary Prince, a new dispensation begins as government appears on the evolutionary world and the advanced tribal epoch is attained. Under normal conditions, mortals achieve a high state of civilization during this age, though the Urantia races struggled longer in barbarism due to the disruptive effects of rebellion. The average length of this dispensation spans approximately five hundred thousand years, with some periods longer and others shorter. During this time, the planet becomes established in the system circuits, and a full quota of seraphic and other celestial helpers is assigned to planetary administration.

When the Planetary Prince arrives, the evolved religion of fear and ignorance prevails, and he and his staff make the first revelations of higher truth and universe organization. Religion progresses through both graduated revelation and evolutionary growth during this period, witnessing a spiritual dawn as different races develop specialized religious and philosophical thought systems. Despite the Planetary Prince not being "the Prince of Peace," racial struggles and tribal wars continue but with diminishing frequency and severity. This era marks significant racial dispersion culminating in intense nationalism, with color often forming the basis for tribal and national groups.

The greatest social achievement of this dispensation is the emergence of family life, as tribal organization gradually gives way to the dual concept of national life and family structure. During this period, agriculture develops alongside the domestication of animals and home arts, while biologic evolution reaches its apex. The races are purified and elevated to a high state of physical and intellectual strength on normal worlds. The restriction of unfit individuals' reproduction is a major accomplishment during this age.

When evolutionary life has run its biologic course and man has reached the apex of animal development, a Material Son and Daughter appear on the planet, dispatched by the System Sovereign. This second order of sonship and second dispensation of grace and ministry is inaugurated at this critical juncture in planetary development. Thought Adjusters are increasingly bestowed upon post-Adamic men in constantly augmented numbers, though the Material Sons themselves do not possess Adjusters. By the termination of the post-Adamic age, the planet possesses its full quota of celestial ministers, with only the fusion Adjusters not yet universally bestowed.

The primary purpose of the Adamic regime is to influence evolving humans to complete the transition from hunter-herder civilization to agriculture and horticulture, later supplemented by urban and industrial developments. Ten thousand years of this dispensation suffices to effect remarkable transformations on a world. Twenty-five thousand years of joint administration by the Planetary Prince and Material Sons typically prepares the sphere for a Magisterial Son's advent. This age witnesses the elimination of unfit individuals and further purification of racial strains, with defective bestial tendencies nearly eradicated on normal worlds.

The Adamic progeny never directly mate with evolutionary races but implement a race-improvement project through their descendants over generations. The introduction of Adamic life plasm immediately enhances intellectual capacity and accelerates spiritual development among the mortal races. The post-Adamic dispensation typically manifests as an age of invention, energy control, and mechanical development—precisely the type of era Urantia is currently experiencing. By the conclusion of this epoch on normal planets, the races achieve near-complete blending, nations develop representative governments replacing monarchial systems, and universal peace begins to materialize.

On normal and loyal planets, this age commences with the mortal races blended and biologically fit, having resolved all race and color problems. The brotherhood of man flourishes as nations learn to live in peace and tranquility. The world stands poised for a culminating intellectual development at this stage of evolution. When an evolutionary world becomes sufficiently mature for the magisterial age, one of the high order of Avonal Sons from Paradise appears on a magisterial mission.

When Paradise Avonals undertake magisterial missions, they always incarnate, though they neither experience birth nor death as do realm mortals. They may live for generations as rulers on certain planets, guiding their continued development. These missions extend the revelation of truth to encompass the affairs of the local universe and all its tributaries. After the initial visitation of a Magisterial Son, the races rapidly achieve economic liberation, requiring only about two and a half hours of daily work to sustain independence.

Planetary administration witnesses further purification of racial stocks through restricted reproduction among less fit individuals. Political governance improves as self-government becomes well-established in this epoch. A majority of world mortals become Adjuster-indwelt during this period, though fusion Adjusters are not yet universally bestowed. The closing ages of this dispensation reveal society returning to more simplified living patterns as mortals learn to live more naturally and effectively. This period culminates with a worldwide spiritual awakening that signals readiness for the bestowal Son.

When a certain threshold of intellectual and spiritual development is attained on an inhabited world, a Paradise bestowal Son invariably arrives. On normal worlds, he appears only after the races have ascended to the highest levels of intellectual development and ethical attainment. On Urantia, however, the bestowal Son, your own Creator Son, appeared at the close of the Adamic dispensation—a significant deviation from the usual evolutionary sequence. When worlds have ripened for spiritualization, the bestowal Son arrives to establish the "new and living way," incarnating Paradise truth in mortal flesh.

Following the resurrection of a bestowal Son on the third day after yielding his incarnated life, he ascends to the Universal Father and receives confirmation of his successful mission. The bestowal Avonal and Creator Michael then dispatch their joint spirit, the Spirit of Truth, into the bestowal world. The Universal Mother Spirit participates in this bestowal, concomitant with the issuance of the Thought Adjuster edict, ensuring that all normal-minded will creatures receive Adjusters upon attaining the age of moral responsibility.

The post-bestowal Son age may extend from ten thousand to one hundred thousand years, during which human character undergoes tremendous transformations. The golden rule becomes practically applicable, and Jesus' teachings become truly relevant to a world that has experienced the preliminary training of pre-bestowal Sons. Disease and delinquency are virtually eliminated, degeneracy is largely eradicated through selective reproduction, and the average lifespan extends beyond three hundred Urantia years. Governmental supervision gradually diminishes as true self-government functions effectively, with one race, one language, and one religion prevailing as mortal affairs approach near-utopian conditions.

The bestowal Son arrives as the Prince of Peace bearing the message, "Peace on earth and good will among men." On normal worlds, this dispensation brings worldwide peace as nations abandon warfare, but these salutary influences did not accompany Christ Michael's advent on Urantia. Your world deviates from the normal planetary progression, as your Master explicitly warned his disciples that his coming would not usher in the customary reign of peace. He distinctly informed them that there would be "wars and rumors of wars" and that nations would rise against one another, clearly indicating Urantia's irregular developmental status.

Even on normal evolutionary worlds, achieving worldwide brotherhood presents significant challenges, but on a confused and disordered planet like Urantia, such accomplishment requires substantially more time and effort. Unaided social evolution cannot achieve such harmonious results on a spiritually isolated sphere; religious revelation remains essential for realizing brotherhood on your world. While Jesus demonstrated the path to immediate spiritual brotherhood, the actualization of social brotherhood depends on accomplishing several critical personal transformations and planetary adjustments.

These adjustments include social fraternity through international contacts and intercultural exchange; intellectual cross-fertilization through the sharing of literature between races; ethical awakening to recognize the immorality of intolerance; and political wisdom to substitute civilized adjudication for warfare. Spiritual insight is also essential, understanding that brotherhood emerges from recognizing the fatherhood of God. If transplanted from your backward and confused world to a normal planet in the post-bestowal Son age, you would believe yourself transported to the heaven of your traditions.

The next order of Sons to arrive on average evolutionary worlds are the Trinity Teacher Sons, divine Sons of the Paradise Trinity. Again we find Urantia out of sequence with its sister spheres, as Jesus has promised to return, though whether his second coming will precede or follow the appearances of Magisterial or Teacher Sons on Urantia remains unknown. The Teacher Sons arrive in groups to spiritualizing worlds, with a planetary Teacher Son supported by seventy primary Sons, twelve secondary Sons, and three of the highest order of Daynals. This corps remains on the world long enough to facilitate the transition from the evolutionary ages to the era of light and life which is no less than one thousand years of planetary time and often considerably longer.

During this dispensation, the revelation of truth extends to the central universe and Paradise, as the mortal races achieve unprecedented spiritual development. A great people evolves and a remarkable age emerges while educational, economic, and administrative systems undergo radical transformations. The kingdom of heaven manifests on earth as the glory of God permeates the world. This epoch witnesses the translation of many mortals directly from among the living, and as Trinity Teacher Sons advance their work, spiritual allegiance becomes increasingly universal.

Natural death becomes less common as Adjusters increasingly fuse with their subjects during physical life. Life during this era proves pleasant and productive; degeneracy and antisocial elements have been virtually eliminated, with the average lifespan approaching five hundred Urantia years. Reproductive rates are intelligently controlled, and an entirely new social order emerges with greatly reduced governmental functions. Generation after generation, more of the population embraces the joyous service of the Sons of God as the world ripens for advanced life. Eventually, in connection with the termination of one of the Teacher Sons' missions, the Planetary Prince is elevated to Planetary Sovereign, and the System Sovereign proclaims the world's entrance into the era of light and life.
