Paper 43 explains the nature, structure, and function of constellations within the cosmic administrative hierarchy, focusing specifically on Norlatiadek, where Urantia is situated. The constellation government, centered on Edentia and administered by the Most Highs, serves as the intermediary legislative authority between local systems and the local universe administration on Salvington. Norlatiadek's administration consists of 771 architectural spheres with Edentia at its center, where the Constellation Fathers collaborate with a representative of the Paradise Trinity known as the Faithful of Days.
The constellation administration has been significantly modified since the Lucifer rebellion, with expanded governmental functions and additional Vorondadek Sons appointed to oversee rebellion-related matters. Edentia itself exemplifies architectural perfection with its distinctive physical features, gardens, and morontia-level advancements. The constellation provides critical training for ascending mortals, particularly in group socialization and ethics, during what is described as the most stable period in the ascendant career prior to finaliter status.
Urantia is commonly referred to as 606 of Satania in Norlatiadek of Nebadon, meaning the six hundred and sixth inhabited world in the local system of Satania, situated in the constellation of Norlatiadek, one of the one hundred constellations of the local universe of Nebadon. Constellations being the primary divisions of a local universe, their rulers link the local systems of inhabited worlds to the central administration of the local universe on Salvington and, by reflectivity, to the superadministration of the Ancients of Days on Uversa.
The government of your constellation is situated in a cluster of 771 architectural spheres, the centermost and largest of which is Edentia, the seat of the administration of the Constellation Fathers, the Most Highs of Norlatiadek. Edentia itself is approximately one hundred times as large as your world. The seventy major spheres surrounding Edentia are about ten times the size of Urantia, while the ten satellites that revolve around each of these seventy worlds are about the size of Urantia. These spheres are administered by various groups of native life, including the efficient spironga and the beautiful spornagia, with the morontia life of the constellations being both typical and ideal as the mid-point in the morontia-training regime.
Edentia abounds in fascinating highlands crowned with morontia life and spiritual glory, though it lacks the rugged mountain ranges found on Urantia. The landscape features tens of thousands of sparkling lakes and interconnecting streams, but no great oceans or torrential rivers. The water systems are both surface and subterranean, with moisture in constant circulation throughout the sphere, allowing beings to navigate via these waterways while spirit beings travel above the surface.
Edentia possesses a true atmosphere—a three-gas mixture that includes the two elements of Urantia's atmosphere plus a morontia gas suitable for morontia creatures. Unlike Urantia, Edentia experiences no storms, hurricanes, or seasonal variations, allowing for enhanced outdoor embellishment and beauty. The magnificent Edentia highlands contain minimal creature-made structures, being primarily adorned with biological and morontia art. Key locations include the resurrection halls for ascending mortals situated on the seventh highland range, two special Melchizedek colleges (one for studying rebellion-related problems and another devoted to Michael's bestowal), and the sea of glass—an enormous circular crystal serving as the receiving field for transport seraphim and other beings arriving from outside the sphere.
The administrative center of Edentia is encircled by the headquarters amphitheater, with governing centers for seventy divisions of constellation affairs surrounding this area. Half of Edentia is divided into seventy triangular sections with boundaries converging at their respective sector headquarters, while the remainder constitutes the gardens of God. During periodic visits to Edentia, ascending mortals spend most of their time in the administrative triangle corresponding to their current residential world, with special accommodations provided in designated triangular areas for morontia citizens, finaliters, and univitatia.
Constellations function as autonomous units within the local universe, each governed according to its own legislative enactments. When Nebadon's courts adjudicate universe affairs, they apply the specific laws of the relevant constellation. These judicial decrees from Salvington, combined with constellation legislative acts, are executed by local system administrators. Constellations thus serve as legislative bodies, while local systems function as executive branches, with Salvington providing supreme judicial and coordinating authority.
Two significant tribunals operate at each constellation headquarters: the Melchizedek council and the court of the Most High. The Melchizedek council comprises twelve experienced members who review evidence and formulate provisional verdicts for the Most High's court. The mortal division of this court consists of seven ascendant mortal judges, exemplifying the principle that beings are increasingly judged by their peers as they ascend higher in the universe. The constellation legislative body operates through three houses: the lower house of ascenders with one thousand representative mortals nominated by the systems, the mid-chamber of seraphic hosts and associates numbering one hundred, and the advisory upper house of divine Sons chosen by the Most Highs and limited to ten members.
The combined council of legislators, consisting of three members from each branch and presided over by the junior Most High, sanctions the final form of all enactments and authorizes their promulgation. The approval of this supreme commission renders legislative decisions the law of the realm, with these pronouncements constituting the fundamental law of all Norlatiadek. This three-tiered legislative structure ensures comprehensive representation of all major universe constituencies while facilitating efficient governance of the constellation's affairs.
The constellation rulers belong to the Vorondadek order of local universe sonship and are designated as the Most Highs because they embody superior administrative wisdom coupled with exceptional loyalty. Throughout Nebadon's history, no Vorondadek Son has ever displayed disaffection, with their personal integrity and group loyalty remaining unquestioned. This remarkable record of fidelity stands in contrast to the disruptions caused by rebellious personalities in other universe orders.
At least three Vorondadek Sons are commissioned by Gabriel to serve as the Most Highs for each Nebadon constellation. The presiding member holds the title of Constellation Father, with his associates designated as senior and junior Most Highs. Each Constellation Father serves a ten-thousand-year term (approximately 50,000 Urantia years) after equal periods of service as junior and senior associate. Biblical references to these beings have sometimes created confusion, with various teachers conflating them with tribal deities or merging them into composite deity concepts. While the Most Highs rarely concern themselves with individual planetary inhabitants, they are intimately involved with legislative and lawmaking functions that affect all mortal races and national groups on inhabited worlds.
Urantia maintains a special relationship with the constellation rulers due to the conditions stemming from the Lucifer rebellion. The Edentia Most Highs assumed certain aspects of planetary authority over rebellious worlds during Lucifer's secession, and the Ancients of Days confirmed this control, which will continue as long as Lucifer lives. Additionally, during Michael's bestowal mission on Urantia, the Most Highs provided immediate supervision of all planetary affairs related to the bestowal since Lucifer's successor lacked full system authority at that time.
The most holy mount of assembly serves as the dwelling place for the Faithful of Days, a Trinity Son from Paradise who represents the Paradise Trinity on Edentia. Present since the creation of the headquarters world, this being stands at the right hand of the Constellation Fathers to provide counsel, though only when requested. This arrangement parallels how high Paradise Sons interact with local universe affairs, intervening only upon invitation from acting rulers. The relationship between a Faithful of Days and the constellation Most Highs mirrors that between a Union of Days and a Creator Son.
The Edentia Faithful of Days' residence functions as the constellation center for Paradise communication and intelligence. Working with staffs of Havona and Paradise personalities and in liaison with the supervising Union of Days, these Trinity Sons maintain direct and constant communication with their order throughout all universes, extending to Havona and Paradise. Though exquisitely beautiful, the Paradise Son's residence remains modest compared to the central abode of the Most Highs and the seventy surrounding structures comprising the Vorondadek Sons' residential unit, reflecting the Trinity Son's humble service role.
The north side of the Most Highs' residences features "the mount of Paradise assembly" where ascending mortals periodically gather to hear the Faithful of Days describe the progressive journey through Havona's billion perfection worlds to Paradise. These special gatherings also allow morontia mortals to become better acquainted with various personality groups originating in the central universe. The mount gained notorious significance when Lucifer attempted to usurp authority, declaring "I will sit upon the mount of assembly in the north; I will be like the Most High." Since Michael's bestowal and assumption of sovereignty, rebellious personalities have been barred from Edentia councils, with Satan himself being unanimously rejected when he attempted to attend an Edentia conclave shortly before Michael's death in the flesh.
The normal rotation of Most Highs on Edentia was suspended when the Lucifer rebellion erupted, with the same rulers remaining in service since that time. It appears no leadership changes will occur until Lucifer and his associates are finally adjudicated. This administrative stability has provided continuity during a challenging period in Norlatiadek's history, though it represents a deviation from standard rotational procedures.
To address rebellion-related complications, the constellation government expanded to include twelve Vorondadek Sons with specialized functions. This augmented administration includes: the Constellation Father (number 617,318 of the Vorondadek series), senior and junior Most High associates, a Most High adviser representing Michael, a Most High executive representing Gabriel, a chief of planetary observers directing Vorondadek observers on isolated Satania worlds, a referee for rebellion-related difficulties, an emergency administrator, a mediator for bestowal adjustments on Urantia, a judge-advocate heading an emergency tribunal, a liaison counselor to the Faithful of Days, and a director presiding over the emergency council.
The Edentia Fathers have exercised special care over Urantia and other isolated Satania worlds since the rebellion. Every quarantined world has a Vorondadek observer who normally does not participate in planetary administration except by constellation directive. As the prophet recognized, "When the Most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people." This Most High observer "rules in the kingdoms of men," as exemplified when Machiventa Melchizedek paid homage to the observer during his ministry on Urantia, identifying him to Abraham as "the Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand."
The constellation capitals represent the pinnacle of morontia activities and living embellishments, surpassing both the material and mineral constructions of system capitals and the spiritual glory reflected at universe headquarters. This distinctive emphasis on living embellishment, botanical artistry, has earned these worlds the designation "the gardens of God," with approximately half of Edentia dedicated to the exquisite gardens of the Most Highs, which rank among the most entrancing morontia creations in the local universe.
At the center of this magnificent garden stands the worship shrine of the Most Highs, where on every tenth day of relaxation, the Most Highs lead all Edentia in worshipful contemplation of God the Supreme. The architectural worlds support ten forms of material life, contrasting with Urantia's plant and animal classifications. While the first three divisions might be categorized as vegetable and the last three as animal, the intervening four groups represent prolific and fascinating life forms incomprehensible to mortal minds. The animal life differs remarkably from evolutionary world species, displaying intelligent, serviceable, gentle, and companionable qualities, with no carnivorous creatures or fearsome beings present.
Edentia's vegetation includes both material growths with characteristic green coloration and morontia varieties exhibiting violet or orchid hues. The morontia vegetation consists purely of energy growth that leaves no residual portion when consumed. The ten divisions of physical life, combined with morontia variations, provide extensive possibilities for biological beautification of landscapes and structures. While Urantia artists must use inert materials like paint and marble, celestial artisans and univitatia frequently employ living materials to represent their ideas and ideals, creating botanical and biological embellishments that far transcend anything visible on evolutionary worlds.
Univitatia serve as permanent citizens of Edentia and its 770 associated worlds, functioning as supervisors and administrators throughout the constellation sphere complex. Created by the Creator Son and Creative Spirit, these beings exist in a realm between material and spiritual planes, though they are not classified as morontia creatures. Each of the seventy major Edentia spheres hosts natives with distinct visible forms, to which ascending morontia mortals must attune their own morontia forms as they progress from world one through world seventy.
Though spiritually uniform, univitatia exhibit intellectual variations comparable to mortal diversity. Their form resembles the morontia state, and they function across seventy distinct personality orders. Each order manifests ten major intellectual variations, with each type presiding over specialized training and cultural socialization on one of the ten satellites orbiting each major Edentia world. These seven hundred minor worlds serve as technical education spheres for the entire local universe, open to all intelligent beings though primarily attended by morontia students. Upon reception at any major cultural world, visitors receive clearance for all ten surrounding satellites.
Among reversion directors in courtesy colonies, ascending morontia mortals predominate, but univitatia constitute the largest group associated with the Nebadon corps of celestial artisans. Throughout Orvonton, only the Uversa abandonters among extra-Havona beings rival the univitatia in artistic skill, social adaptability, and coordinating cleverness. While not officially members of the artisan corps, univitatia freely collaborate with all groups, significantly contributing to the constellation worlds' status as premier spheres for realizing transition culture's artistic possibilities, though their activities remain confined to the constellation headquarters worlds.
The physical endowment of Edentia and its surrounding spheres approaches perfection, surpassing the glories of Jerusem's training worlds though not quite matching Salvington's spiritual grandeur. These spheres receive energy directly from universal space currents through sophisticated power systems expertly supervised by constellation centers with assistance from Master Physical Controllers and Morontia Power Supervisors. This advanced infrastructure supports the intensive morontia training program central to this phase of ascension.
The time spent on the seventy transition morontia culture worlds represents the most settled period in an ascending mortal's career before reaching finaliter status. During this quintessentially morontia experience, ascenders retain the same morontia body throughout their progression, though they are re-keyed when transferring between major cultural worlds. The focus during this phase centers on mastering group ethics and understanding productive interrelationships between various orders of universe personalities. Ascenders learn to live and work effectively with both fellow morontians and univitatia in increasingly complex social configurations, adjusting simultaneously to beings both similar and dissimilar to themselves.
This socialization training encompasses several progressive skills: harmonious functioning in diverse groups, diminishing irritability and resentment during close contact with different beings, aligning socialization techniques with Paradise-ascension objectives, and enhancing spiritual insight through group spiritual association. The training emphasizes that partnership techniques between two moral creatures don't merely double but nearly quadruple their achievement possibilities. The socialization process begins with one mortal living among ten univitatia on the first seven major worlds, progressively increasing to ten morontia beings with ten univitatia on the final group of worlds, providing ascending mortals with invaluable experience that prepares them for the more spiritually oriented phases of their universe career.
Upon graduating from the seventieth training world, ascending mortals establish residence on Edentia itself, marking a significant milestone in their progressive journey. For the first time, these ascenders attend the "assemblies of Paradise" where they hear the Faithful of Days, the first Supreme Trinity-origin Personality they encounter, describe their forthcoming universe career. This transition to Edentia citizenship represents the culmination of their constellation training and prepares them for the next phase of their ascension.
The constellation sojourn constitutes the most uniform and stabilized epoch in the entire morontia progression. During this period, ascenders occupy a midway position between their former material existence and future spiritual state. They function "as the angels," continuously progressing while maintaining a typical morontia status. This prespirit socialization training parallels the prefinaliter spiritual experience of Havona and the preabsonite training on Paradise, providing essential preparation for subsequent universe experiences.
Ascending mortals on Edentia primarily engage with assignments on the seventy progressive univitatia worlds while also serving in various capacities related to constellation programs focused on group, racial, national, and planetary welfare. The Most Highs concentrate less on individual advancement and more on administering "the kingdoms of men." When the time arrives to depart Edentia for Salvington, ascenders look back on one of the most beautiful and refreshing training epochs this side of Paradise, though its glory continues to increase as they ascend inward and develop greater capacity to appreciate divine meanings and spiritual values.
